“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” – A.A. Milne
It was lovely to see everyone at our annual family breakfast. The children were delighted to share their classrooms with moms, dads, siblings, sitters and even a few grandparents. We love this event. I also want to thank you all for the wonderful notes, gifts, coffees, and lovely teacher luncheon in honor of teacher appreciation week. We enjoyed a fabulous Friday afternoon relaxing, laughing, and truly enjoying the moment. Thank you for taking the time to honor us—we felt very appreciated!
The year(s) go by quickly for us grown-ups. We watch these young children in our care blossom in so many ways – they are taller for sure, they have gained social skills, independence, some have mastered toileting, putting on their shoes, finding their cubby, opening/closing their lunch boxes, hand washing, transitions, being part of a group, writing their name and more, developed mastery on the playground, gained confidence, made connections with their teachers and class mates, have ownership of the space and are part of a tight knit respectful and kind community that truly values them. The above is only a snapshot of all that your child has absorbed and mastered and will continue to in this journey called LIFE. So many life skills and laying the foundation for future learning are happening all the time! Amazing, when you think about it.
The traditional tile painting process has begun. The soon to be graduates are eager to leave their permanent mark at Great Ex. When you see how many tiles have been painted over the years, you realize how many children have passed through our little school. It is always a pleasure to witness children enthusiastically sharing their tile with a parent or friend, and to have alumni return for a visit and a stop in the bathroom to find their own tile. After many years some of the drawings have faded!
Our close-knit community of teachers, children, and parents is what makes Great Ex. such a special place. I want to thank the teachers for all they do to create this warm and nurturing educational environment. I am both grateful and privileged to work with this talented team of professionals who are so passionate about the work that they do. Thank you to the many parents who have volunteered their time and interests with us over the year. Whether you shared a talent with the children, donated a birthday book, read to the class, or hosted a parent coffee, your dedication and commitment to your child and their school is commendable. And thank you to these extraordinary children who arrive each morning with curious minds, joyful energy, and open hearts. You continue to amaze and inspire us every day.
The end of a school year is a time for endings and new beginnings. It is always difficult to say goodbye, especially to those families who have been with us for many years. It has been a privilege getting to know you and your children. I wish you all a relaxing and fun-filled summer season and I look forward to seeing many of you in September. To those of you who are moving on, I wish you the very best — please remember to visit!
