“All at once, summer collapsed into fall” – Oscar Wilde
Hello to fall and the New England change of seasons. With this transition comes a whole new world to explore outside. We embrace the change and make full use of what mother nature has on offer. Our school garden is slowly getting ready for its winter sleep.
This year’s garden was not as plentiful as previous years. The tomatoes did not do well! We had basil, sage and mint. Cosmos took over one raised bed. We learned that cucumbers really need deep soil, and the planters we used did not allow for that, noted. We are always learning from nature!
We are seeing lots of happy faces upon arrival these days and our youngest children are adjusting well to the drop off routine and rhythm of the day. Saying goodbye can be difficult, and children may experience separation on some level. There are many individual styles of entering a new situation with a range of emotions. These reactions are positive evidence that children are working through their feelings of separation. Even children who may not show any signs of working out separation at the start of the school year, may express their feelings at other times of the day or when the newness of school has worn off. Expect the unexpected. Separation is an ongoing process rather than a task to be mastered for a lifetime.
As I visit each classroom, or children stop by the office for a chat, or witness the various transitions throughout the day, it is evident to me how happy and engaged the children are. Whether it is running around outside, sitting having a conversation with a peer or teacher, gathering for music or yoga class there is a positive hum in the air. Seeing each classroom from a different perspective as Director, rather than as a teacher, one sees how special Great Expectations is!
It was wonderful to see so many parents at our back-to-school night. We hope you enjoyed your time in the classroom and hearing about your child’s day.
It was a glorious day last Friday for our “All School Meet & Greet” here at school. Jeff Jam entertained us, the sun was shining, we saw lots of dancing and the popsicles were savored at the end. We appreciate you all carving time out from your work day to join us. What a nice welcome to Fall too.
Please reach out should you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions at any point. Parents are welcome to stop by the office or contact me via phone, email or brightwheel.
